In our Voices of Best Workplaces™ series, we celebrate the individuals who make these award-winning companies stand out. Meet Jeffrey Johnson, a valued team member at TP in the Philippines, as he shares what makes his workplace truly exceptional.
What makes your company one of the Best Workplaces™?:
Formerly known as Teleperformance for nearly 30 years of operations in the Philippines, TP is recognized as a best workplace for its strong and consistent commitment to employee well-being, innovating for talent development, and being a Force for Good in the communities where we operate.
How has your company supported your personal and professional growth? Can you share a specific experience?:
Looking back on my nearly 22 years with TP, I see a career shaped by opportunity, trust, and a belief in continuous growth. I’ve had the privilege of taking on various roles across Operations, Training, Learning & Development, and, most recently, People Operations. Each step in my journey was made possible by TP’s commitment to investing in its people. One defining moment in my professional growth was when TP entrusted me – at a young age -with establishing the Learning and Development department. At the time, organizational learning was decentralized and inconsistent. Despite my inexperience in building a function from the ground up, TP believed in my potential. That trust gave me the confidence to take on the challenge, and later, to expand the impact with a team that shaped how we approach learning today. This experience is just one example of how TP creates opportunities for people to grow – not just through hard work, but also through the company’s belief in its people. Growth at TP isn’t just about climbing the ladder;it’s about being empowered to build something meaningful. Another defining aspect of my TP journey is the company’s deeply rooted culture of diversity. TP is a truly global organization, where inclusion isn’t just a value – it’s embedded in everything we do. Working in such a diverse environment has broadened my perspective and reinforced my belief that when different voices come together, innovation and success follow. After nearly 22 years, I can say with confidence: TP is a place where careers are built, potential is recognized, and diversity is celebrated.
What are the top three best practices your company follows that create an amazing workplace? Or what is a unique perk, tradition, or initiative at your company that employees love?:
As one of the Philippines’ largest employers, TP has successfully embedded a people-first strategy into its daily operations. This achievement is driven by consistent employee engagement, a comprehensive total rewards package, and a transparent, open culture. First, TP fosters a strong sense of community and connection through proactive engagement initiatives. From its grassroots-led employee resource groups such as TP Pride and TP Women to its community-facing initiatives such as tree planting, mobilizing employees for good is at the front and center. Second, recognizing the importance of holistic employee well-being, TP offers a comprehensive total rewards package. This extends beyond competitive salaries to include robust benefits, ubiquitous professional development opportunities, and sought-after recognition programs. Lastly, TP’s culture of innovation is consistently underpinned by a culture of openness. Regular communication channels, direct-to-CEO feedback mechanisms, and myriad opportunities for collaboration ensure employees feel valued and heard. This commitment to ongoing dialogue creates a dynamic and responsive work environment.
What advice would you give other companies looking to build a high-trust, people-first workplace?:
Make holistic employee-wellbeing a cornerstone of your growth metrics. A people-first workplace recognizes that employees are whole individuals with diverse needs. Integrate engaging and diverse development programs that aim to upskill, reskill, and hone homegrown talents onto your company’s overall strategy. When employees are empowered to grow, innovation thrives. Establish and actively utilize multiple channels for employee feedback. A high-trust environment is built on valuing employees’ contributions and providing opportunities for development. Moreover, a culture of trust is built on every interaction of your employees with your leadership, processes, systems, and values. Understanding what works and what doesn’t from their own perspective is more valuable than a year’s worth of careful planning. Most importantly, cultivate inclusive leadership from the top to the frontlines. Leaders play a crucial role in setting the tone and embodying the values of a people-first workplace. Emphasize empathy in leadership and encourage leaders to understand and care for the well-being and growth of their team members. Ensure leaders are trained and equipped to support their teams’ diverse needs and be accountable to creating a workplace environment where employees feel safe, engaged, and valued.
